Guaranteed Ways to Make your Holidays Easier in the Diverse Classroom

The holiday season can be hectic in the classroom. There is SO MUCH to do and the time is very limited!  If your classroom is like mine, it is very diverse.   The majority of my students celebrate Christmas.  However, about half of my class celebrates other holidays.  Some celebrate Hanukkah while others celebrate Kwanzaa, Eid, Diwali, or the Chinese New Year.

I searched on Teachers Pay Teachers for the different holidays that I needed.  However, most of the resources that I found were related to Christmas Around the World and did not refer to the other holidays that I needed to make all of my students feel included.  Therefore, I decided to create this resource myself.  I named it “Holidays Around the World.”  It soon became one of my best sellers!  Although most of my students can read and write, I have a few students who are not able to yet (i.e., exceptional students, ESOL/ESL).  Therefore, I made my “Holidays Around the World” differentiated.

It includes a letter that I send home each year to ask parents what holidays they celebrate at home in order to include them in our curriculum.  This resource also includes directions and suggestions, as well as the following:

Choice 1 ~ Holidays Around the World Informational Booklet {five holidays in a single book}.  It is available on size (8.5”x11”), half page, and differentiated (Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced.  This resource also includes fun ELA and math printables.

Choice 2 ~ Holidays Around the World Informational Booklets {one book per holiday}.  This option is also available on size 8.5”x11” and half-page for the holidays that follow: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Eid, and Diwali.

You may obtain it in either English or Spanish, or as a bundle including both languages.

I also created a resource for everyone in our class to learn about the Chinese New Year.  It is available only in English at this time, but I will soon translated into Spanish.

So…if your classroom is like mine, these resource will make your life easier in order to include all of your students.
